When considering restoration or renovation of tavernas “cellars” and vaulted ceilings here there are few handed tips prior to commencing the building works.  After working on old vaulted ceilings for many years you should take into account that when the vaults where constructed they were built from above on to a timber mould. Vaults are constructed in a manner to make them interlocking and self supporting. When they were constructed in the 17 hundreds they were filed from the top with soil animal manure, straw, on top of which was laid mortar and tiles. So when renovating vaults from below you have to take extreme care as the soil has dried to dust with the up top date building technologies nowadays we use resin, fix foam, sand blasting equipment, natural brick sealant to enhance the colour of the brickwork.  Take care when purchasing a property with vaults that are damaged as it could lead to huge costs on the rebuild.

These spaces are very useful to be restored for workshops offices children’s play area but the best place to store your wine.
